Voters on Tuesday (July 31) gave a slight edge to a casino gambling question on the Republican ballot in the 2012 primary election.

On the GOP question of whether to support casino gambling "with funds going to education," the results were 50.2 percent "yes," 49.7 percent "no."

In the GOP voting, 956,006 votes were cast.

The question was non-binding.

The outcome could affect the proposed gambling facility in Gwinnett county. A developer has proposed a casino gambling complex there, with funds aiding the HOPE scholarship. Former University of Georgia football star Herschel Walker has said he would develop a restaurant as part of the complex.

Vote totals were obtained from the Georgia Secretary of State Elections Division.
