The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners and General Motors have formed a partnership for warranty work that the county says will save it $100,000 annually.

The county announced Tuesday that GM will train the county's fleet mechanics to perform warranty work on GM vehicles rather than send those vehicles to a GM dealership for repairs. GM will provide the training at no cost and will reimburse the county for warranty work at $55.82 per hour.

The county has plans to expand this program to other vehicle manufacturers in the near future.

“This new agreement will save our local government about $100,000 every year in reduced transportation costs and vehicle downtime,” said Gwinnett’s Fleet Management Director Michael Lindsey.
