GCVB Changes Names to Explore Gwinnett
Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau adds tagline of 'Atlanta's Playground' to emphasize the family-friendly attractions, sporting and other events the county offers.
The Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau (GCVB) has a new identity -- Explore Gwinnett “Atlanta’s Playground.” This new name and tagline encourage visitors to explore the Atlanta suburb of Gwinnett County and its family-friendly attractions, sports and must-see events.
“We truly feel that our new name, branding and logo pull together so many positive aspects of Gwinnett’s reputation with visitors,” explained Lisa Anders, executive director of Explore Gwinnett, in a press release announcing the name change. “Gwinnett is a vibrant, active community and there are so many things to do. Visitors love to explore, so we are inviting them to explore Gwinnett.”
Efforts by the Explore Gwinnett staff bring more 2 million visitors to Gwinnett County each year for sporting events, trade shows, family reunions, corporate travel, faith-based events and more. Tourism accounts for more than $904 million in visitor expenditures in Georgia and Gwinnett County each year, according to the press release.
“This change did not come on a whim. We did our research and really planned it out. In our focus groups, both residents and tourists, used words like fun, exciting and entertaining to describe Gwinnett,” Anders said. “There is no doubt that there is a trend within the tourism industry of getting away from bureaucratic names and titles that non-industry people just don’t understand.”
The new logo uses shades of blue and green to convey a feeling of relaxation and leisure. Explore Gwinnett worked with the Atlanta-based marketing firm of TG Madison to develop the new identity. Explore Gwinnett also unveiled a new logo and website URL (www.ExploreGwinnett.org).
“We’ve received so many positive comments already. We are looking forward to the release of our new events app, too,” Anders said. The app will make it easy for visitors to explore the special annual events Gwinnett County offers like Japanfest, Suwanee Beer Fest, SEC Women’s Basketball Championships, and Peachtree Corners Art Fest, she said.
