Gwinnett firefighters extinguished a fire in a metal building that accepts newspapers and magazines for recycling at the Recycling Bank of Gwinnett at 4300 Satellite Blvd. in Duluth Thursday morning.

The fire was reported at 9:28 a.m., firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:33 a.m., and the fire was knocked down at 10:03 a.m., Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge reported. Firefighters were able to enter the building and extinguish the fire using three handlines, Rutledge said in a press release. The fire caused damage mainly to the contents of the building.

Several workers at the recycling center evacuated the building after seeing smoke near a conveyor belt and paper shoot, Rutledge said. No injuries were reported.  A sheriff's deputy already on-site tried to douse the fire with portable fire extinguishers before the fire department arrived, he said.

The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined, Rutledge said.
