Farmhouse Home Decor & Gifts Now Open

Beverly Norris has been collecting objects since she was a kid. Now she is displaying and selling things she collects and creates in her shop in downtown Duluth.

Inheriting her grandmother’s treadle sewing machine led to a lifetime interest in collecting old things for Beverly Norris.

“I started as a kid collecting objects,” she said. “I’ve always loved it.”

Norris learned to sew on her grandmother’s machine and later took sewing in home economics in high school.

Now she has a permanent place to display and sell all the things she collects and creates. Norris opened The Farmhouse Home Décor & Gifts April 13 at 3107A Main St. in downtown Duluth. Furniture that Norris has collected, pillows she sews, and works by local artists fill the 1,000-square-foot shop.

Her shop is located in a 130-year-old building at the corner of Main and West Lawrenceville streets.

The Farmhouse offers antique and vintage furniture for sale along with home accessories, art, china, pottery, textiles, papercraft, clothing, jewelry, specialty candles, and scented soaps.

Norris has operated a booth at the Lakewood 400 Antique Market in Cumming for the past eight years. She will continue to man the booth the third weekend of every month.

A resident of Johns Creek, Norris grew up as a city girl in New Jersey and has lived in Georgia for the past 15 years. The Farmhouse signs on her shop windows are based on a photograph of her husband John's family farmhouse near Cooperstown, NY.

Hours for her Duluth shop will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. It will be closed Sunday and Monday. Call 678-480-8970 to inquire about items in the shop.

She will be staying open late along with other downtown Duluth merchants in a new First Thursday promotion starting May 2 and continuing through October. Stores will be offering special sales and giveaways beginning at 4 p.m. every first Thursday of the month. The Farmhouse will be conducting a drawing for a candle at the initial event. “I’ll have a different giveaway every month,” Norris said.
