Duluth Woman Wins $400,000 in Lottery Game
The Alpharetta daycare worker took an afternoon walk and bought a winning lottery ticket at a Kroger store.
An Alpharetta daycare worker stumbled upon prize money from the Georgia Lottery during an afternoon walk in Alpharetta. Patsy Wehby of Duluth won a $400,000 prize playing the instant game 20X The Money, lottery officials reported.
Wehby, 56, claimed her prize recently at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.
The mother of three was out for a walk when she stepped into the Kroger at Hwy. 9 and Windward Parkway, where she purchased her lucky ticket, according to lottery officials.
“I was looking crazy,” she said. “I was crying. I called my daughter. It was a good day for me.”
Although dazed, Wehby intends to “sit down and collect myself.”
“My practical husband, Robert, will keep me grounded,” she noted.
The Georgia Lottery Corp. reports that since its first year, it has returned more than $13.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.
More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program.
