Driveway Shooting Suspect Freed on Bond

Phillip Sailors of Lilburn, who has been charged with murder, was released from Gwinnett jail Wednesday afternoon.

Phillip Sailors, the Lilburn resident accused of shooting and killing a young Duluth man who pulled into his driveway, is out of jail Wednesday after posting bail.

According to jail records, Sailors bonded out of the Gwinnett County Detention Center at 3:34 p.m. Jan. 30. A judged granted Sailors a $10,000 bond Wednesday afternoon, according to his defense attorney Michael Puglise.

Sailors, 69, is charged with murder in the death of 22-year-old Rodrigo Diaz.

On Saturday evening, Diaz and three friends pulled into Sailors' driveway on Hillcrest Road in Lilburn. The car's GPS took the friends to the wrong house, according to Diaz's family.

Sailors' attorney said that his client thought he and his wife were about to become victims of a home invasion or assault when he fired the fatal shot.

After Diaz died from his injuries Sunday morning at Gwinnett Medical Center, Lilburn Police arrested and charged Sailors with murder.

Seems fishy that this man could get Bond after commiting Murder. What did Diaz do ring the doorbell? In the mind of this man he was being invaded? Exactly what is it that someone lost could have done to make him think this? could Sailors have profiled this young person?

The law presumes someone innocent until proven guilty. You should wait until all the facts come out before jumping to conclusions.

Honestly, this country is messed up. He killed someone, for no reason. You fear for your life if someone is peeking through your window or of they are armed. But seriously, a car parked in your driveway what about calling the cops locking the doors ?! He cant just shoot someone jut bc. I hate how unfair this is.

Whats unfair is a man being arrested for what he believed to be defending his property and family. The people at fault for the death are the criminals who create the environment where we have to be this on edge...maybe if we had the guts to prosecute and execute criminals this woild be avoided
