Gwinnett Medical Center celebrates breast cancer survivors, new Gwinnett Breast Center.
Gwinnett Medical Center celebrated breast cancer survivors Tuesday (Oct. 4) at the new Gwinnett Breast Center on the Lawrenceville campus. Survivors shared their inspiring stories after walking down a red carpet at the entrance as part of the sixth annual celebration.
About 250 guests toured the state-of-the-art facility, which combines screening and diagnostic services in a spa-like environment. The center offers such amenities as private changing rooms, lockers for storing personal items, and complimentary snacks and beverages.
Featured speakers included Dr. Kimberly Hutcherson, a GMC-affiliated radiologist and breast cancer survivor, who self diagnosed herself at the age of 40.
The center includes the Marion Allison Webb Center for Screening Mammography and the Sandra J. Strickland Diagnostic Center. Designated a Breast Center of Excellence, the center is located at the Gwinnett Physicians Center, 631 Professional Drive, Suite 250. Patients can make appointments by calling 678-312-3444.
The Gwinnett Breast Center program is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which is administered by the American College of Surgeons. The same program is also offered at the GMC-Duluth campus.
As part of the program, a hospital employee or patient navigator guides women with an abnormal mammogram diagnosis through treatment and offers follow-up support.
