A man hiking in Little Mulberry Park with his son this weekend made a gruesome discovery.
The pair were on a trail within the park Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m. when the man spotted a badly decomposed body. Due to the condition of the remains, investigators were unable to determine the gender of the deceased at the scene.
According to a Gwinnett County Police Department press release, cause of death and identity were also not immediately apparent. The Gwinnett Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing.
The body was the second discovered over the weekend in Dacula. Saturday evening, a set of skeletal remains were found in a wooded area adjacent to a small field in the 1700 block of Harbins Road.

I heard that they iddentified the body as my aunt who just got married to my uncle's sister's ex boyfriend. They just broke up before this happened. He went missing for a while. He has a boy, only about a year old.

We go to that park ALL the time to walk on the trail. This is so shocking & scary. May God be with the family of this person.

@Leslie- I walk those trails alone all the time too and because I always was concerned with how deep into the woods and away from mainstream activity they are I carry MACE on every trail there. You can pick some up at Ace Hardware.

Does anyone know where it was found? There are so many trails there. I have been on some that are deep in the woods. This is scary. Yes - Mace is a good idea!

I was there hiking with my family when they found the body on Sunday. There were about 10 or so cops that showed up. The path that was taped off was to the left-I believe it is the Ravine over-look path.

Very scary stuff! :( I hope they are able to identify the person soon; am sending up prayers for his/her family, and hope they are able to catch who did this (if my assumption of foul play turns out to be correct) or otherwise get to the bottom of this. :( We are going there in the next several weeks for a geocaching event that is taking place at that park... I am definitely carrying some kind of pepper spray and keeping my eyes peeled for sure.

Chris there is like 3 or 4 that lead to no where out of the park one takes u to a creek, another so far out in the woods u just end up turning around. I would hope they would lead u back to park or at least somewhere close to your car lol I mean what did they expect was gonna happen when u have trails like that and I mean clear see able trails that take u out into nowhere next time ur there look around, some trails connect. Its usually why I go to tribble mill at least if I jump on trail there I know I won't be missing for hours and ill end up back at my car like a "normal" park

Anyone who leaves "lol" comments on a story about a deceased person being found unidentifiable is really ignorant and it is even moreso ignorant to blame the city of Dacula or a park. No matter where one goes in life they must take precautions on the situations they put themselves in. We enter into decisions every day. I know when I decide to take a trail and I am not sure where it leads that I should consider time, distance, surroundings and MY OWN safety. This situation is tragic whether or not foul play was involved but I don't see many people "laughing out loud".

ok, so this is a very sad event for any further bickering, but I must say to Jamie, above, that my best friend Adrianne and I have hiked Little Mulberry almost 3 years now and I don't know what trails you have ever been on, but you are mistaken with your comments! each and every trail there makes perfect sense.

I agree with Jamie! Sorry but it's ture a lady I know who walks there said she wanted to take a short cut and ended up getting lost and an hour later of walking the woods trail she found her way out. So people don't ask him what trails his been on.. You people must be thinking of another park. It is very sad that someone died there and again it could happen anywhere, at any park. Duh! And nobody cares how long you have been walking there it dose not matter.!

This young man was in the government student body at a college in Gainesville, So sad to loose one so young, I am sure we will find out what happened to another young person that was cut down too soon. Thanks for keeping up up to date.

MACE bought from stores like ACE Hardware, Walmart etc are useless. Seriously. You need to find something like Def-Tec's First Defense MK4, Vexor or Capstun. Pepper spray, or OLEORESIN CAPSICUM is rated in Scoville Units. The Vexor for example is rated at 15 million units. ACE Hardware store bought usually contain around 200,000. In other words, probably enough to make your attacked more angry or violent towards you but no where near strong enough to delay their attack, or incapacitate them long enough for you to run away. These better options can be found on the internet.
