The William Day DAR chapter of Duluth, GA regularly sends packages through the DAR Project Patriot program to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Kaiserslauten, Germany, the largest U.S. hospital outside of the United States, which provides medical treatment to those injured during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The wounded often arrive at the hospital off the battlefield with only the clothing on their back. DAR chapters supply items like phone cards, gym bags stocked with personal care items, coats, sweatpants and sweatshirts, and athletic shoes.
