Tuesday while working at The Duluth Montessori School Sugarloaf campus, Head of School Phillip Willingham had a very special encounter with a fawn. He and his dog Pi were taking a break from painting elementary class chairs and went for a walk on the nature trail. Suddenly, Pi took off deep into the woods and pinned a baby fawn down against the fence. Mr. Willingham directed Pi to be gentle as he moved to them. He was then able to take the fawn from Pi and check it to be sure that it was not injured. “You can’t imagine how sweet it was to hold that fawn”, said Mr. Willingham. He could hear the mother in the background snorting and calling for her baby. Once Mr. Willingham was sure that the fawn was ok he released it near its mother so they could be reunited. Our own nature conservatory in the middle of Duluth is always full of wonder...you just never know what you might find when you go for a walk here!
